Cycling

Having begun extending the bikeways early on, both locals and our guests can now enjoy the wonderful East Tirolean scenery and the Lienz Dolomites by bicycle. In recent years, Lienz has more and more developed into a hub for cycling. A significant contribution to this has been the extension of the cross-regional Drava cycle path from the source of the Drava River in Toblach/Innichen all the way to Maribor in Slovenia. But the connections to the Iseltal cycle trail or Glockner cycle path in Mölltal Valley also make every cyclist's heart leap for joy.

Those who come to Lienz for the first time will see right away why the region calls it self "Bike Arena": In the north the mighty Schober Group and in the south the towering Lienz Dolomites. Add to this the local mountains such as the Hochstein, Zettersfeld or Ederplan. Together they form a mountain backdrop framing our town – much like the stands in a stadium – and are a true eyecatcher on every tour. In the bike-arena you'll find fantastic mountain bike tours amidst a unique mountain backdrop. Already 25 one-day tours and 5 multi-day tours are available to choose from for avid cyclists. Currently, more than 600 km of mountain bike routes are available. For road cyclists, the mountain stages around Lienz make for a constant challenge. In particular the annual Dolomite Cycling Tour around the Lienz Dolomites makes every ambitious cyclist's heart leap for joy.
